Ear candling, also called ear coning or thermal-auricular therapy, is a pseudoscientific alternative medicine practice claiming to improve general health and well-being by lighting one end of a hollow candle and placing the other end in the ear canal

What is ear candling with ear wax candles?

Ear candling is a natural, non-invasive treatment that may assist in alleviating the painful effects of sinus conditions, severe headaches, vertigo, certain allergies and minor hearing loss, caused by an excessive buildup of ear wax and dirt. Ear wax candles are a very effective holistic remedy. Many who have experienced this treatment have found it to be safe and effective, and also very relaxing, however, it should not replace medical treatment.

How do ear wax candles work?

It is believed that as the ear wax candles burn, the gentle warm smoke is drawn into the ear canal which softens and loosens ear wax, and other debris. This is then gently drawn into the unburned bottom section of the candle.

Is treatment with ear wax candles for everyone?

If you have any damage to the eardrum, ear tubes, congenital hearing loss, a current ear infection, or recent surgical procedures to the ear, then no, ear wax candles are not for you.

Will ear candling cure an ear infection?

Ear candling is a preventative treatment intended to help keep your ears cleaner and therefore healthier. Should you believe that you have an inner ear infection, we recommend that you see your doctor as soon as possible. Ear candling should not replace medical treatment and it is advisable not to be carried out on individuals with major ears issues.

What can I expect after an ear candling session?

After an ear candling session with ear wax candles, you may feel slight pressure in your ears for a short time. This is entirely normal. It is also suggested that you should not fly or get fluid in your ears for 24 hours prior to a candling treatment.

How often should I have an ear candling treatment?

It is suggested that you do the procedure at least three to four times a year. For many individuals who produce excessive wax, this may be more. You should proceed with an ear wax candle treatment immediately if you feel like you may be developing a cold or sinus problems, as this aids the immune system in healing.

Are ear wax candles painful to use?

They are not. Many people find the experience is surprisingly relaxing and soothing, reducing tension and anxiety. The crackling and popping sounds during your treatment is entirely normal and in no way uncomfortable.
